Jury Comments: As architects in search of a project that we can completely immerse ourselves in, this was clearly an interesting assignment with all the distractions associated with adapting an iconic historical building to serve a contemporary function. While the lobby has performed many different functions, in many different styles, over the buildings long history, the work presented appears to capture the spirit of the original building. When reviewing the projects in this category there was a common understanding that, from the perspective of practicality, behind every historical preservation initiative stands a property owner with bold intentions – it’s the Architect’s job to make it worth the effort.
